Do You Love Your Life? Then Donate Blood Against Heart Attack.

Dr Wilfred Ndifon, the Coordinator, National Blood Transfusion Services (NBTS), Calabar Centre, in Cross River State, said voluntary blood donation would reduce risk of heart attack by 80 per cent.
According to him, voluntary blood donors usually record low risk of heart attack, hence the need for healthy individuals to donate at least 500 milligrammes of blood four times a year.
He said that blood donors usually look smart, stronger, agile and flexible.
“When you donate blood four times a year, the level of iron in your body will be low and the risk of having heart attack is reduced by 80 per cent.”
“Similarly, when you donate blood freely, the risk of having cancer is 30 per cent.”
“We must learn to donate blood today. Each blood donated can help save many lives,’’

Trump calls pope’s criticism of him ‘disgraceful’

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump
reads from a statement about Pope Francis during
a campaign rally in Kiawah, South Carolina,
February 17, 2016.
Trump cannot claim to be a Christian, Pope
Francis said Thursday, after the billionaire vowed
to build a border wall to keep out immigrants.
“Anyone, whoever he is, who only wants to build
walls and not bridges is not a Christian,” the
pontiff told journalists during his return journey
from a trip to Mexico in response to a question
about Trump’s anti-immigrant stance. / AFP / JIM

Donald Trump on Thursday called remarks by Pope Francis “disgraceful,” after the pontiff argued the Republican White House hopeful could not claim to be a Christian based on his anti-immigrant stance.
“For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful,” Trump said in a statement that he read out to a crowd at a campaign stop in South Carolina, which holds its primary vote on Saturday.
“I am proud to be a Christian and as president I will not allow Christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened.” The comments framed an extraordinary public exchange between a candidate and the leader of the Roman Catholic church in the run up to a US presidential election.
Francis issues his remarks after concluding a five- day trip to Mexico, where he delivered a mass before 300,000 people near the US border and decried the “human tragedy” of migrants fleeing violence worldwide. In a highly symbolic gesture the pontiff climbed a ramp facing the Rio Grande and looked out across the border into US territory, where hundreds of migrants waved at him. Trump, the brash real estate magnate, has vowed to build a wall on the US southern border to keep migrants from illegally crossing into the United States, a pledge that has caused a firestorm in the presidential campaign where immigration is a hot- button issue. “Anyone, whoever he is, who only wants to build walls and not bridges is not a Christian,” the pontiff told journalists during his return journey from Mexico, in response to a question about Trump’s anti-immigrant stance.
Trump’s reaction was notable for its tone against a global religious figure. “If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been president because this would not have happened,” Trump said, referring to the Islamic State extremist group controlling wide swathes of Syria and Iraq. Trump said Mexican authorities told the pope only “one side of the story.” “He didn’t see the crime, the drug trafficking and the negative economic impact the current policies have on the United States,” Trump said. “They are using the Pope as a pawn and they should be ashamed of themselves for doing so, especially when so many lives are involved and when illegal immigration is so rampant.”

Pope says Donald Trump ‘not a Christian’

Pope Francis speaks to journalists aboard the flight from Mexico to Italy, on February 18, 2016. Pope Francis left Rome on February 11, 2016 bound for Cuba, where he met Russian Patriarch Kirill before continuing on to Mexico for a five- day visit.

Republican White House hopeful Donald Trump cannot claim to be a Christian, Pope Francis said Thursday, after the billionaire vowed to build a border wall to keep out immigrants.
“Anyone, whoever he is, who only wants to build walls and not bridges is not a Christian,” the pontiff told journalists during his return journey from a trip to Mexico in response to a question about Trump’s anti-immigrant stance.
“Vote, don’t vote, I won’t meddle. But I simply say, if he says these things, this man is not a Christian,” he said. His remarks drew swift condemnation from the outspoken Republican presidential candidate, who described them as “disgraceful”. Trump has gained in popularity by claiming Mexico is sending criminals and rapists over to the United States, and last week he accused the pope of visiting the border between the two countries at the bidding of the Mexican government.
“Am I an instrument of the Mexican government? I leave that to your judgement, to the people to judge,” Francis said.
Trump, the brash real estate tycoon from New York, has promised to end illegal immigration by building a wall along the Mexican border. His first TV ad, which was unveiled on Monday, uses footage that shows migrants fleeing Morocco to the tiny Spanish enclave of Melilla in 2014.
The Mexican-US border stretches more than 3,100 kilometres (1,950 miles), but only around a third is marked by high-security fencing. “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best… They’re sending people that have lots of problems… They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people,” he said in June.

Anita’s lawyers, Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors, announced the break up on their website thus: “We have been requested by Anita Oyakhilome to confirm that on February 8, 2016 a decree absolute was pronounced in the High Court of Justice Principal Registry of the Family Division dissolving her marriage to Christian Onehirokpeana Oyakhilome. Anita Oyakhilome would like to confirm that she is no longer involved in or part of Christ Embassy AKA Believers Loveworld Inc.”

Study unveils secret of good sex. It’s so simple!

Saying "I love you" during sex is the thing that is most likely to make you and your partner feel satisfied.
A study has found that talking about love whilst in bed beats foreplay and wearing sexy lingerie to ensure you have a good time.
Some 75 per cent of satisfied men said ‘I love you’ whilst they had sex and 74 per cent of satisfied women did the same.
The study, one of the largest of its kind to date, involved an online survey which got tens of thousands of responses. Scientists from Chapman University in the US analyzed the answers of 39,000 married or cohabitating heterosexual men and women who had been with their partner for at least three years.
The average age was 40 years old for women and 46 years old for men. The results showed that the more a couple communicates during sex, the more satisfied they are going to be.
Things which improved love making included; praising your partner for something they did in bed and asking your partner for something you want.
Talking on the phone or by email during the day about sex also ensured that they had a good time in bed. The most important factor in setting the mood among men and women was saying ‘I love you’, which was done by three quarters of satisfied men and women.

What Is Wrong With Us In Nigeria?

The biggest problem we have in Nigeria is that we are not fixing the issues that are fundamentally wrong with us. So today I have compiled the list of what I believe are fundamentally wrong with us.
  1. We've been a self-ruled country for 55 years now and a steady democracy for 16 years. How long does it take for us to get our acts together? Our leadership system is broken.
  2. If you want to predict the future of a country, you go check out what's going on in its citadels of learning (its schools). As long as we have schools that are like time capsules back to the 1970s then we can kiss innovative development goodbye.
  3. Every nation gets the leader it deserves because the leader is always one of the people. And in democracy, installed by the people. As long as we don't have proper self esteem and a drive to live/act better, we will always have poor leaders. As long as people hoard meats and drinks at parties while others get nothing to eat or drink; as long as you have to be rich to get a decent education; as long as our Police officers have no shame or sense of what's really right; as long as our newspapers only paint celebrities as the model for the youths; as long as we have more illiterates than literates and more ambitious; as long as we have ill educated people; as long as keep throwing refuse in improper places; as long as we keep bullying those socially beneath us; we will never fully rise out of the national rut we are in.
  4. Electricity. It has been in existence for over 120 years and it is one of the easiest systems to run. Transformers, power turbines, electricity grids are one of the most reliable things in the world. They don't require much servicing or maintenance and can run for decades. The power generation systems are very predictive and can even be run by unintelligent robots. All the countries in the non African world have no problem with providing enough and dependable electricity for their citizens. Even the countries with hurricanes and earthquakes. Our own Nigeria can't. Anything that requires more IQ than politicking fails in Nigeria.
  5. Same with Railway and public telephone systems. We are one of the countries that have little desire to use our brains.
  6. We don't produce/manufacture anything that requires high technology. We are always behind the curve in every serious aspect of economic development and progress.
  7. We still have to pick beans. Just imagine if the other countries didn't figure out how to bag picked rice, we'll probably be picking rice too.

January 2016 allowance for corps members. “The delay is due to discrepancies in planning figures for 2016 from the NYSC, Ministry of Budget and National Planning and the Ministry of Finance. “Management regrets this delay, and is therefore working round the clock to ensure that all corps members receive their January allowance between now and next week. “Please accept our very sincere apology for this delay,”

MTN hires top U.S. lawyer to fight $3.9b fine

Telecommunications giant MTN has hired a former United States Attorney General Eric Holder to help challenge the $3.9 billion fine imposed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for failing to disconnect unregistered users, the Financial Times reported yesterday. Citing people familiar with the situation, the newspaper said Holder, the immediate past U.S. top law officer, pleaded with Nigerian officials last month on behalf of the telecoms company.
Africa’s largest mobile phone company was handed a $5.2billion penalty last October, prompting weeks of lobbying that led to a 25 per cent reduction to $3.9 billion.
MTN, however, was still not prepared to pay the fine and launched a court challenge in December, saying the Nigerian telecoms regulator had no legal grounds to order the penalty.
A Federal High Court judge sitting in Lagos last month gave MTN until March 18 to try to reach a settlement over the fine, which equates to more than twice MTN’s annual average capital spending over the past five years.
MTN spokesperson Chris Maroleng was not immediately available to comment. Holder, who led the US Justice Department from 2009 to2015, was one of President Barack Obama’s longest-serving cabinet members. He returned to the law firm Covington & Burling, where he was previously a partner from 2001 to 2009.

French: A Must For All Students - FG

Students from primary to tertiary institutions will henceforth learn French language compulsorily, the federal government said at the weekend. It said it will embark on intensive training of more French teachers in its bid to make it the nation’s second official language.
The Minister of State for Education, Prof Anthony Anwukah, stated these in Abuja yesterday when the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Denys Gaver, paid him a courtesy call.
Anwukah said: “French language is a matter of necessity. We have to because we have Cameroon, Niger, Chad, Benin Republic, Togo Guinea, and Ivory Coast surrounding us and so there is need for us to get more Nigerians to become proficient in French language.
“This is good for the continent; it is good for us as a nation. It is good for our brothers at the borders because it will enable us to communicate with them effectively. Speaking to the envoy on the need to have more French teachers, the minister said: “We plead that you consider it a lot more expedient in helping us train our teachers in French both for the primary school level, secondary level and tertiary level. “So far, we have demonstrated the enthusiasm to foster the. teaching and learning of French in Nigerian schools which are the tertiary, basic and secondary levels and our main concern now is the training of sufficient number of French teachers within our school system.”
The minister also flagged off the French Clinic Project in Federal Government Boys College Apo, Abuja. Speaking on the project, Anwukah said: “The ministry is geared towards establishing French clinics in 104 government colleges,
unity schools.
“We are keen and motivated by the need to actualise our dream of making French language our second language of business in Nigeria.
“The clinic is expected to improve the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of students. “It is expected that with these skills, our students will fare better in their examinations and in the world of worth. Gaver said in the absence of sufficient French teachers, the internet can be employed as a tool for training teachers.

Kids Need Time, Not Gifts

In the ever getting busier world of today, time seems to be the single most critical element that seems to get compromised first. Most individuals have kids at a later age, as they are busy establishing their careers. As a result, the parents have lesser energy and more stress.
Strangely, our parents were several siblings, with lesser material means and comforts - still their parents never stressed about how they were going to bring up a child or how they were going to put them through school or college. They just worked hard, lived with basic means and allowed their lives to just be and take its own course. And their kids turned out just fine and achieved great heights and were very hardworking and diligent.
Today, we have one or two kids, with all material comforts provided to them. A parent's basic goal is to put their child in the best school and college, decide the child's career path which would generate maximum income stream (as that seems to be the measure of success in today's day and age). How is it then that the kids are less focused, not as hardworking and sharp as their previous generations and lazier?
In my opinion, it is the substitution of personal love, time and attention with comforts and material things that is leading to this. We buy them the best toys and more toys each day. The old ones get thrown away, misplaced, broken and no accountability is set up. The children are losing their value for money and things. We think that buying fancy expensive gifts make us better parents. No! Research shows that a child needs emotional nourishing, not material nourishment. They are happy wearing a t-shirt with a hole or living in two pair of jeans. They don't care about brands or new and old. It's the parents who do and who then impose it on their children.
If we can dedicate time to our children reading to them, playing outdoor sports with them, cycling with them, playing board games, walking together and discussing the beauty of nature - it will go a great mile in being a good parent. The child will bond more, listen to us more, tell us more about their lives and be more patient.
Try replacing tablet and TV time with playing a board game or doing a fun craft activity. Do a Puzzle with your child and see how engaged you become as a family. Play soccer, basketball, cycling with them and enjoy and dwell in their laughter - for they grow up really fast. If we wait for the time when we think we've made it in life and now we will spend the time with them - guess what - they may not need and appreciate our time anymore!

Top boxing promoter hints at Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch

Veteran boxing promoter Bob Arum believes Filipino legen Manny Pacquiao may reconsider retirement after his final fight against Timothy Bradley, and declared Wednesday he would “love” to see a rematch with Floyd Mayweather. Pacquiao insists he will step away from the ring after the third and final instalment of his rivalry with Bradley in April.
The 37-year-old is planning to run for a seat in the Philippines’ senate later this year after already serving as a representative in the country’s congress. “I’m so happy to be hanging up my gloves after this fight,”
Pacquiao told a press conference in Los Angeles a week ago. But Arum thinks that could all still change.

“Once that bell rings for that final round, Manny Pacquiao’s going to rethink it and who knows if he decides to return?” he told AFP in Hong Kong.
“I’ve been in this boxing business for 50 years and I know that fighters retire and other than, say, Rocky Marciano, they come back,” said the 84-year-old Arum.
“Will it be Manny’s last fight? I’m not ready to guarantee that,” added Arum, who also hinted at a rematch for the Filipino against Mayweather, who himself retired after their mega-fight in Las Vegas last May.
“I’d love to see Mayweather-Pacquiao second fight, of course I would,” said Arum. “The first fight was by far th most lucrative in the history of boxing. “But Mayweather has to un-retire, Manny has to decide whether or not he’s elected to the senate and he’ll do the rematch, so we’ll have to see. “You know, I’m done predicting what athletes are going todo.”
– Macau to Hong Kong –
Bradley’s WBO welterweight title will be on the line in the April 9 bout at Las Vegas’s MGM Grand, in the third
meeting of the two fighters.
Top Rank guru Arum was in Hong Kong to announce a three-fight deal to promote local super flyweight and world title prospect Rex Tso.
Arum confirmed that Tso would fight South Korea’s Young Gil-Bae in May in Hong Kong for an Asian regional title. A high-ranked contender would follow in September and, if
successful, Tso would get a shot at becoming Hong Kong’s first boxing world champion in December against the WBA super flyweight champion, currently Japan’s Kohei Kono.
The deal signals the end of Arum’s tie-up with the nearby resort city of Macau, where he has promoted eight casino-based shows in the past three years, including two multi-million dollar Pacquiao fights.
Macau has been hit hard by China’s high-profile corruption
crackdown which has kept high rollers from the gaming tables and saw casino revenues in 2015 fall to a five-year low. “We thank Macau for hosting boxing and bringing it on a tremendous basis to this part of the world,” said Arum “But we know there is not the same appetite for events there as in prior years,” admitted Arum. “If you’re not going to get that type of support from the casinos in Macau, it is logical to bring the events to where the people are — and that’s Hong Kong,” he added.
